Students workshops

A creative and dynamic AI workshop was held at Secondary School Bedekovčina 7th of April 2025,  with 21 first-year students from the Construction Technicians program.

At the beginning students were briefly introduced to the history of AI, what AI is and how they already use it in everyday life—often without even realizing it.

The main part of the workshop took place in a specially prepared MagicSchool Working Space, where students explored various AI tools through hands-on activities.

They were working on different tasks like: Create a joke, Chat with Docs, Image generator.

The most interesting activity was Rap battle. Students had created rap songs between historical figures or literary characters. The creativity was amazing!

At the end of the workshop they used web tool Suno, AI music tool, to generate audio versions of their lyrics, transforming their raps into real songs

The students were very engaged, and continued exploring the tools even after the workshop ended.

It was a great example of how AI can inspire creativity and learning in new, meaningful ways.

Teachers workshops

The workshop "AI as a Tool for Teachers" was held during a teachers' meeting at Antun Mihanović Primary School in Klanjec, 27/05/2025..

Teachers were introduced to the history and development of artificial intelligence, as well as to different types of AI based on their capabilities and levels of autonomy.

They found it particularly interesting to learn how AI "learns" and to understand the differences between Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Neural Networks.

The main part of the workshop focused on working with ChatGPT, where participants learned how to create effective prompts and adapt them for their own needs. Teachers also developed AI-assisted materials for their teaching, such as lesson ideas, educational resources, and rubrics for various activities including posters, essays, and presentations.

In the final part of the workshop, teachers designed student assessment tasks that incorporate AI elements into tools they already use, such as Padlet, Quizizz, and Google Forms.

The workshop was a valuable challenge, especially for teachers with little or no prior experience with AI. We believe we helped them take their first steps in integrating AI into their teaching practice.

Students workshops

Debate workshop exploring the question:

Should artificial intelligence be used to monitor students in schools?

Two workshops were implemented at Secondary School Bedekovčina.

15th  of May 2025, 20 second-year students from the Architectural Technicians and 12 of Construction Technicians on 23rd  of May 2025,  took part in an engaging debate.

Students were presented with a futuristic scenario set in 2035, where AI-powered systems track student attention, behavior, and stress levels. Divided into two teams, they took on roles as school board members—one team supporting the use of AI, the other opposing it. The teacher acted as a judge, evaluating the arguments.

The "pro" team highlighted safety, early intervention, and support for teachers. The "con" team focused on privacy, ethics, and student well-being.

To add depth to the discussion, students watched a short documentary about the experimental use of AI in Chinese schools, where facial recognition and behavior monitoring are already in use (https://youtu.be/JMLsHI8aV0g?si=8ZFASjoNdjF6rXF7). This sparked further conversations about cultural differences, ethical boundaries, and the future of education.

The workshop served not only as a platform for discussion but also as an introduction to:

  • The ethics of AI in education

  • The five main principles for responsible use of AI tools

  • The importance of being an active and informed digital citizen

Students left the workshop with greater awareness of both the opportunities and challenges AI brings—and the understanding that technology in education must always be aligned with human values.

Teachers workshops

The workshop "AI as a Tool for Teachers" was conducted as a Professional Development Session for teachers of Science, Language, and Social Studies at Secondary school Bedekovčina, 16/06/2025.

Participants were introduced to the history and development of artificial intelligence, along with different types of AI, categorized by their capabilities and levels of autonomy. They also explored how AI learns, gaining a clearer understanding of the differences between Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Neural Networks.

The core part of the workshop focused on using ChatGPT. Teachers learned how to create effective prompts and adapt them to their specific teaching needs. They developed AI-supported teaching materials and educational resources tailored to their subjects.

Additionally, participants were introduced to the AI-powered education portal ScholAI, where they created new assessment tasks for students and designed rubrics for evaluating various student activities. They also explored how to create custom ChatBot Spaces on specific topics.

In the final part of the workshop, teachers learned how to use debates as a powerful classroom activity—especially in discussions related to the impact of AI in schools, private life, and the workplace. They were particularly surprised to learn that in some countries, such as China, AI is being integrated into schools in cooperation with the government (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMLsHI8aV0g). This led to meaningful discussions on ethics and safety in the use of AI tools.

The workshop provided a valuable opportunity for teachers to take their first steps in using AI tools. They discovered that AI can be a powerful assistant in planning, teaching, and assessment—and were inspired to explore its potential further.
